Located in the Antique city of Kaunos, and mentioned as the Domed Church in various books, the building is built on the most important location of the city, in the approximate center of the Palaestra plain, which is located between the Roman Bath and the theatre. It is one of the oldest and best-kept examples of its kind in Anatolia. It is almost square shaped. Its dimensions are 14m by 14.5m, and it has three rostral columns (Nave). The middle Nave is domed, and the side Naves are vaulted. It is entered through three different cabins that open up to three different Naves. The small Chapels on the east, and on both sides are added in the later periods. The church was probably constructed towards the end of the 5th Century, and was renovated a couple of times. |
